When Henry VIII's first
wife, Catherine of Aragon, is unable to produce an heir
to the throne he uses this as a pretext for divorce –
allowing him to marry his newest conquest, Anne Boleyn.
Needing societal and religious approval, Henry seeks the
support of Sir Thomas More: lawyer, writer, scholar, and
churchman, only for More’s crucible of moral standards –
against the personal pride and political
salvation-seeking of Henry VIII – to lead to a choice
between his own integrity and certain death...
