Opened in 1905, The Novello
hosts 1,067 theatregoers on 4 levels. It was originally
named the Waldorf Theatre. In 1909 it became the Strand
Theatre. In 1911 it was renamed the Whitney, and two
years later reverted to the Strand. It remained the
Strand Theatre until December 2005 when, after a £3
million facelift, it was renamed the Novello Theatre
after Ivor Novello, who used to live in a flat above the
theatre.
